The 6th Adavize Alao Essay Competition on privacy and data protection is now accepting submissions. This competition offers an exciting opportunity for both lawyers and students to explore important topics in data privacy while competing for cash prizes.
The competition has two categories with different topics:
- Lawyer Category: Repositioning Data Protection Authorities in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Nigeria as a case study.
- Student Category: Examining Policy Developments on Cross-border Data Transfers and Digital Trade in Nigeria.

Lawyer Category Prizes
- First Place: N550,000.
- Second Place: N350,000.
- Third Place: N200,000.
Student Category Prizes
- First Place: N350,000.
- Second Place: N250,000.
- Third Place: N150,000.

How to Apply
To enter the Adavize Alao Essay Competition, follow these guidelines:
- The first page of the submission should include your full name, year of call, phone number, and email address. For students, state your school of study.
- Submissions must be in Microsoft Word format. Use Arial font, size 11, with 1.5 spacing, and justify the alignment. Use OSCOLA for referencing.
- Submissions must be original, independent, and unpublished. Co-authored essays are not allowed.
- The competition will be judged blind. The judging panel’s decision is final.
- Winning essays may be published on the Lawyard website or in other Lawyard publications.
- Winners may be asked to submit a biographical note about their legal studies and future goals.
- Lawyard reserves the right to publish any selected submissions, including the winning essays, up to 18 months after the competition ends.
- Past winners are not eligible to participate again.
- If you used any AI tools in preparing your essay, this must be disclosed on the first page.
