Undergraduate Scholarship by UNESCO

The government of People’s Republic of China in conjunction with the UNESCO is offering 75 undergraduate and postgraduate fellowship for developing countries 2020/2021.

The Government of the People’s Republic of China has placed at the disposal of UNESCO for the academic year 2018-2019 seventy-five (75) fellowships for advanced studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These fellowships are for the benefit of developing Member States in Africa, Asia–Pacific, Latin America, Europe and North America and Arab region.

Tenable at a selected number of Chinese universities, these fellowships are intended for scholars who plan to pursue advanced studies or undertake individual research with periodic guidance from the assigned supervisor in China for a duration of one year. Selected candidates will undertake their studies in the host universities as visiting scholars. Most of the study programmes will be conducted in English. In exceptional cases, candidates may be required to study Chinese language before taking up research or studying in their fields of interest.

Twenty-five (25) of the 75 fellowships are especially intended for candidatures from the Teacher Training Institutions supported by UNESCO-CFIT Project in the 10 African countries to pursue an Advanced Training Programme for Education Administrators and Teacher Educators at East China Normal University.

Any applicant can choose one academic program and three institutions as their preferences from the Chinese HEIs designated by MOE. Fellowships are for advanced studies at Undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Benefits of UNESCO/People’s Republic of China Undergraduate Scholarship

The Program provides a full scholarship which covers tuition waiver, accommodation, stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance.

Requirements for UNESCO/People’s Republic of China Undergraduate Scholarship

  1. Applicants applying for General Scholar programs must not be older than the age of forty-five (45) and have completed at least two years of undergraduate study.
  2. English proficiency is required.
  3. Be in good health, both mentally and physically.

Selection Process

Due to the intergovernmental character of UNESCO, individual applications will not be accepted by UNESCO. Only applications endorsed by the National Commissions for UNESCO will be considered. Applicants should submit their application documents through the National Commissions. The National Commission will select qualified candidates and transmit to UNESCO the Letters of nomination and copies of China Scholarship Council online Application Forms together with photocopies of valid ordinary passports.

UNESCO and the Chinese authorities will select the seventy-five (75) most qualified candidates. The National Commissions to UNESCO of the beneficiaries will be duly informed by UNESCO.
