The Chair of Epistemologies of the Global South at the University of Bayreuth invites applications for a part-time position (50 %) for a Doctoral Researcher (m/f/d) in the Study of Decolonization and Epistemologies of the Global South to commence on 1 October 2020 or as soon as possible after this date.

The position requires someone interested in the following thematic areas: epistemologies of the Global South, decolonial/postcolonial studies, African/black female intellectuals, radical black tradition, theory from the South, decolonial feminism, decolonizing knowledge, and decolonizing African Studies

 If the personal and collectively agreed conditions are met, the salary will fall into the pay grade E 13 TV-L. The doctoral researcher will be given the opportunity pursue her/his degree within the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS).

  • Epistemologies

Requirements for University of Bayreuth Epistemologies Research programme

  1. A Masters or MPhil in any of the following fields of study: African Studies, History, Anthropology, Sociology, Philosophy, Gender Studies, and Development Studies with a focus on Africa, Caribbean, Latin America, or Asia, is preferred. 
  2. The successful candidate needs to have the capacity for teamwork in an interdisciplinary research environment. Her/his tasks also include the provision of academic services for the Chair of Epistemologies of the Global South. Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required. German language skills are welcomed but not a precondition.
