Longwood University, USA  is accepting applications for the Merit-based International Scholarships which is available to international students who are looking to attend a degree program at the university.

The main purpose of the program is to provide financial assistance to those brilliant candidates who will begin the degree coursework at the Longwood University.

For this scholarship, the university wants applicants who has never attended a university before and have proof of successful completion of secondary education (e.g., secondary school transcripts, final exam scores, diploma) with certified English translations.

Benefits of LongWood University Undergraduate Scholarship

  1. $2,000-$8,000 per year for 4 years ($8,000-$32,000 total)

Requirements for LongWood University Undergraduate Scholarship

International Applicants with No Prior University Studies:

  1. Proof of successful completion of secondary education (e.g., secondary school transcripts, final exam scores, diploma) with certified English translations
    Longwood recognizes the value of the International Baccalaureate diploma and will award transfer credit for IB exams.
  2. Curriculum: Qualified students will have studied math, science, history, your native language, and a foreign language during the completion of secondary school.
  3. Official TOEFL or IELTS scores from non-native English speakers

TOEFL/IELTS requirement is waived for applicants who have earned an International Baccalaureate diploma.

TOEFL/IELTS scores may not be required from students completing 2 or more years of study at a high school in the US. Contact International Admissions to confirm this requirement.

International Applicants Transferring From a University outside of the United States:

  1. Proof of secondary school graduation
  2. Official transcripts with all available grades from your university
  3. Official TOEFL or IELTS scores from non-native English speakers

International Applicants Transferring From a University in the United States:

  1. Proof of secondary school graduation
  2. Official transcripts with all available grades from your university
  3. Official test scores, if applicable:
    Non-native English speakers who have completed less than 1 year of study at a US university: TOEFL or IELTS scores (TOEFL/IELTS scores are not required of students who have studied at a university in the US for 2 or more years.)

Test Score Minimum Requirements

Although not required, SAT scores will be reviewed if submitted and may qualify applicants for larger scholarship awards.

Health and Immunization Requirements

Medical services in the United States are not nationalized. Costs for doctors' services and hospitals may be more expensive than in your home country. Longwood requires that you subscribe to a health insurance plan before arriving. That policy must provide similar coverage in the U.S.
Every student must have a health record on file. This record includes immunizations for Measles, German Measles, Rubella, Polio, Diphtheria, Mumps, Tetanus, and a Tuberculosis skin test (PPD) within the past year, which are required by Virginia law. Students may not be able to register for classes without complying with these immunizations. A chest x-ray may also be required for tuberculosis screening.

Selection Process

Native speakers of English will be contacted by International Admissions to determine which additional standardized test scores may be required. *TOEFL/IELTS/Cambridge requirement is waived for applicants who have earned an International Baccalaureate diploma.

Longwood reserves the right to request additional information, should it be deemed necessary to make an admission decision.The application will not be considered complete until the application fee, school transcripts and required test scores are received in the office.

To complete an application for admission, follow the steps below:

  1. Complete and submit the online international application. Submit $50 application fee, which is payable by credit card during completion of the online application.
  2. Send records and any leaving certificate scores from all secondary and post-secondary institutions with certified English translations and evaluations with explanation of grading system/scale.

  1.  Non-native speakers of English should submit one of the following*:

Students who meet the following criteria can be admitted through the ESL Bridge Program:

  • TOEFL score report with a score of 60-79 (Internet)
  • IELTS scores of 5.0-6.5
  • Cambridge score of B1 or B2

Students who do not meet the criteria above can be considered for Conditional Admission to Longwood if enrolled either at an ELS Language Center or Embassy English Language School. When completing the online international application, indicate your enrollment at ELS or Embassy. Applicants will be admissible to Longwood’s undergraduate program once submitting proof of completion of Level 112 at ELS or Embassy English Advanced (C1) level at the Embassy English Language School.

  1. Using the above contact information, download, complete, and submit the Undergraduate Financial Certification Form 2019-2020 (pdf), along with official bank statements.
  2. Using the above contact information, submit a copy of the information page in your passport.
