Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow (ILOT) Undergraduate Scholarships at University of British Columbia 2020-2021

The University of British Columbia hereby offers its annual need -and- merit-based International Leader of Tomorrow (ILOT) Undergraduate Scholarship Award, to international undergraduate students who show superior academic achievement, leadership skill, involvement in student affairs and community service, recognized achievement in fields of endeavour such as the performing arts, sports, debating or creative writing, or external academic competitions and examinations. 

This scholarship is open to international undergraduate students applying to study a first degree in Canada, who have little or no means of financing their studies at the University of British Columbia. The standard needs assessment  awarded is based on the financial information provided by the students and their family.

The scholarship lasts up to three additional years of undergraduate study, or till degree completion, provided the student continues to achieve satisfactory academic standing in their faculty, has a constant need for financial assistance, and maintains their Canadian study permit (visa).

Benefits of UBC Undergraduate Scholarship

costs of tuition, fees and living costs, minus the financial contribution the student and their family can make annually towards these costs

Duration of Scholarship: The International Leader of Tomorrow Award can be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study, or to degree completion, whichever is less, provided the student achieves satisfactory academic standing in their faculty, continues to demonstrate financial need, and maintains their Canadian study permit (visa).

Requirements for UBC Undergraduate Scholarship

Award candidates must be nominated by the high school they are currently attending, recently graduated from, or the college/university they are transferring from. To be considered for the International Leader of Tomorrow Award:

  1. You must be an international student who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit.
  2. You must be entering UBC from a recognized secondary school, college, or other university.
  3. You must be applying for your first undergraduate degree.
  4. You must meet UBC’s admission requirements, including general and degree-specific requirements and the English Language Admission Standard.
  5. You must demonstrate superior academic achievement (at least an A average or equivalent standard).
  6. You must demonstrate a level of financial need that would otherwise prevent you from pursuing a UBC degree.

Selection Process

Important Notes: Although candidates to UBC can specify two program choices in their application for admission, an International Leader of Tomorrow Award nomination will be considered only in relation to the nominee’s first choice program. Early application is encouraged, to ensure an application decision can be made in time for nomination consideration.

Award nominations are now open for the 2020/21 winter session and are open until December 1.

Also,

  1. December 1: Submit your award application and complete the online application for admission to UBC. Although you can specify two degree choices in your application, only your first-choice degree will be considered for the purposes of this award.
  2. January 31: Meet UBC’s English Language Admission Standard.
