The ACCEL Africa Project is inviting journalists to take part in a free training designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge to effectively report on child labour in African supply chains, with the aim of amplifying efforts to eradicate child labour and stimulate public and policy-level support for this crucial cause.

Requirements for ILO Training Program
Professional Background
- Must be a practicing journalist, media professional, or journalism student in the Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Malawi, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana or Egypt.
- Preference will be given to journalists with experience in reporting on human rights, social issues, or on any of the following supply chains: gold, cotton, coffee, cocoa, tea
Geographic Focus
- Currently residing and working in one of the targeted countries as mentioned above.
- Special consideration for applicants reporting in rural or vulnerable regions within these countries.
Commitment to Advocacy
- Demonstrated interest or prior work related to child labour, human rights, or social justice.
- Willingness to engage in advocacy and public awareness activities post-training.
Selection Process
Based on professional background, experience in relevant fields, geographic focus, commitment to advocacy, quality of application materials (CV, motivation statement, story, recommendation letter)

- Send your CV highlighting your professional experience as expressed above to: [email protected] with the subject – COUNTRY – NAME and LASTNAME– Voices against child labour.
- Motivation statement in 1 page only, detailing interest in the training and how it aligns with professional goals.
- Develop 1 story in first person for a real case, with 1-3 photos of the story subject. The story should portrait a real case of child labour, and a real solution which may have helped the subject overcome a challenge. The story can be of a child, a parent, or a family. For all stories, a signed consent form should be attached for each subject portrait. Kindly note that the form should be signed by the subject and not by yourself.
- Include a maximum of 1 page description of the story highlighting the context, the challenge, and the solution.
- A letter of recommendation from a current employer or a professional peer attesting to the applicant’s suitability for the training.
Deadline – All application materials must be submitted by email to [email protected] by 19th July – no extension will be granted.
