France – South Africa 2023-2024 Scholarship Program for Africans

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates who intend to study in universities or higher education institutions in France for their Master’s degree or PhD studies.

The 2023-2024 scholarship offer will open in May, 2023 for eligible candidates to apply. The award will include online French courses organized by the network of the Alliances Françaises. It may also include an internship in French Companies and organisations based in South Africa, depending on the opportunities and the profile of each laureate. This programme is open to all fields of studies.

Requirements for France – South Africa P.hD Scholarship

To be considered for the Scholarship Programme 2023, applicants are to meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be from the eligible African countries
  • Applicants must have obtained relevant bachelor or master’s degree in their fields from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Applicants must be available to begin the studies in France in September 2024 if granted the scholarship.
  • Must demonstrate excellent academic and research abilities.

Selection Process

Timeline:

  • The call for applications will be open between 25 May 2023 and 16 October 2023 at 23:59 SA time.
  • A series of webinars will be organized in june 2023 to provide students with all useful information to prepare their applications
  • Interview of the eligible candidates: November 2023
  • Results: end of November/early December 2023
  • Specific programme in South Africa (online french courses and possibly internship): February 2024 - July 2024
  • Departure to France: Early September 2024

Applicants and Scholarship laureates will be contacted individually when needed. Due to the high number of applications, follow-up requests by candidates will not be answered.

Interested applicants for the France – South Africa Scholarship Programme 2023 are to ensure to read through the rulebook for the Scholarship programme and the frequently asked questions.

Applying to the France - South Africa Scholarship Programme means that applicants accept and will comply with all the rules. Please read them carefully again. In addition please note that:

  • In case the studies are interrupted, the scholarship will automatically be suspended.
  • The visa granted for the student does not lead automatically to visas for members of his/her family.
  • The scholar benefits from priority access to student housing via Campus France. However, this is not guaranteed as the demand for this type of accommodation is considerable.
  • The social protection is only provided for the duration of the scholarship and includes risk of infection and diseases, risk of accidents and liability insurance, with the exception of diseases contracted before arrival in France.
  • One return plane ticket will be granted by the scholarship programme, but will not be available for family members.

The complete scholarship application file must be submitted online only. For this purpose, each candidate must:

  • Create a member account with a valid email address after accepting.
  • Fill in the forms online.
  • Upload all the requested documents
  • Make the final submission before the deadline, 16 October 2022 at 23:59 South Africa time. Please be aware that you will not be able to modify your application after the final submission.

The member account (login and password) allows you to take your time to complete and finish the process before the deadline. Make sure you provide all the necessary information and documents before the final submission.

To open an account, you need to provide some key information (identity, address, valid email address and a mobile phone number) Please double check that the provided information is correct before you submit, as they cannot be modified later.

It is recommended that you process your application on a desktop. Applicants are responsible for any errors in their applications and that may result in not being eligible.

Please be aware that the online application does not support special characters such as apostrophes ('). Do not use them while filling out your application as it would cause the erasement of all entered data.
