DAAD Stellenbosch University 2021-2022 Molecular Biology and Human Genetics (MBHG) Scholarships

It has been agreed upon that DAAD cooperates with the Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics (MBHG) at Stellenbosch University, by offering up to 5 In-Region Scholarships for MSc studies and up to 4 In-Region Scholarships for PhD studies at MBHG for the intake 2021.?

The DAAD In-Region Scholarship Programme aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. To this end, scholarships are granted for development-related Master or doctoral studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa. ?

Benefits of DAAD/Stellenbosch University Masters Scholarship

  1. Stipend (MSc: € 5,400 p.a.; PhD: € 6,000 p.a.)
  2. Research allowance
  3. Allowance for printing costs (final year of study)
  4. Travel allowances
  5. Health insurance
  6. Regular university fees Scholarships are initially granted for one year and can be extended to a maximum of the regular period of study upon receipt of an application for extension. Scholars must demonstrate satisfactory progress before an extension is granted.

DAAD/Stellenbosch University Masters Scholarship Courses

Requirements for DAAD/Stellenbosch University Masters Scholarship

Nationals or permanent residents from Sub-Saharan African countries (excluding South Africa) who:

  1. Have successfully completed the equivalent of a BSc Honours degree (MSc candidates) or a Master’s degree (PhD candidates) with above average results (at least: Lower Second Class/2.2/>60%)
  2. Have thorough knowledge of the language of instruction (English)
  3. Have generally completed their last university degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application
  4. Should generally be a) staff member of a public university, b) candidate considered for teaching or research staff recruitment, c) from the public sector, d) Alumni of the DAFI programme
  5. Clearly show motivation and strong commitment
  6. Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

Interested and qualified? Go to German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) on hermes.mb.sun.ac.za to apply

To apply for this scholarship applicants must complete the Online MBHG DAAD Scholarship application form, and submit all required documentation, as outlined in the MBHG DAAD Scholarship Call document for review by the MBHG review committee before the internal deadline ?midnight, 15 March 2021.
