Columbia University is offering bright Postdoctoral fellows the opportunity to enroll in the university's department of Humanities, as well as teach an undergraduate course, through the Columbia University International Postdoctoral Humanities Fellowship USA 2020-2021.
Upon being accepted for the fellowship the Fellows will be appointed as Postdoctoral Research Scholars (Mellon Fellows) in the Society of Fellows in the Humanities and as Lecturers in appropriate departments at Columbia University as well (departments are listed in the link below).
For their first year at Columbia University, the Fellows will teach one course per semester. At least one of those courses must be in the undergraduate (“Core”) education program such as:

The Fellowship Stipend for 2020-2021 is $64,000. Medical benefits are provided, and subsidized housing is available. There is a $7,000 research allowance per annum. To aid in the research process, each Fellow is assigned to a private office with a phone, and access to campus Wi-Fi. The research allowance may be used to pay for research-related expenses such as conferences, professional memberships, and research materials.
Fellows newly appointed for 2020-2021 must have received the PhD between 1 January 2018 and 1 July 2020.
Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, 1 October 2019 11:45 PM EST. There are no exceptions or extensions to this deadline.
TWO letters of recommendation. In order for your recommenders to be alerted to your request for their recommendations, you must enter their names and emails, by clicking the “Add Recommender” button found under “Reference Letters” in the Side Menu. You should do so far ahead of the application deadline (1 October 2019) so that they have sufficient time to submit letters on your behalf. Recommenders will receive automated notification of your request and instructions for submitting their recommendations once you have added them via the “Add Recommender” button. Please be sure to follow up with your recommenders, as spam filters can interfere with the delivery of automated emails. You can check the status of recommendation submissions and re-send the automated notification to your recommenders by logging into your application account.
Please Note: We do not accept recommendations delivered via dossier services (e.g. Interfolio).
Online Application. Complete and submit the Online Application. Please note that the Online Application must be submitted by the deadline in order for the submission to receive consideration. In addition to your personal information, the Online Application requires submission of Microsoft Word or PDF files containing your curriculum vitae, a research project proposal (no more than 1,500 words), a writing sample (no more than 3,500 words; footnotes and bibliography may be appended), and a two-page undergraduate course syllabus of your own design.
2. $25.00 application processing fee. This fee must be paid online via Visa or MasterCard payment. You will be able to make the payment on the submission page of the application system.
