The Scholarship Schemes of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund are part of PTDF Human Capital Development objectives to provide skilled manpower to meet the demands of the oil and gas industry.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) awards two types of Scholarships. They are the Overseas Scholarship Scheme and the Local Scholarship Scheme.
The PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme is designed to meet the human capacity requirements of the oil and gas industry through the training of young Nigerians in oil and gas related fields of Engineering, Geology, Environmental Studies, Sciences, Management, Law, Accounting, Renewable Energy, Information Technology and offshore related course in top rated universities around the world, to facilitate knowledge transfer. The study centers for the scholarship awards are universities in the United Kingdom, China, Germany, France, and the United States.
The PTDF overseas Scholarship Scheme is an annual programme for MSc and PhD studies. The purpose is to provide Nigerian students with the intellectual foundation and skill set that will enable them to participate actively in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry at the conclusion of their studies. The sponsorship duration is between twelve (12) and twenty-four (24) months for MSc, and thirty-six months (36) months for PhD. There are no awards for undergraduate studies under the scheme.
The Strategic Partnership Scholarship was developed to improve the Funds’ Overseas Scholarship Scheme by offering candidates the opportunity to benefit from a diversified pool of knowledge and the facilities offered by world-class institutions across the globe.
In recognition of the fact that the best education can be found on numerous shores, the Fund has sought out strategic partnerships in Germany, France and China where candidates are offered the opportunity to study in English-taught classes and conduct research in world-class facilities where they will also have the opportunity of experiencing new cultures and work environments.
Under this scheme, candidates can apply through PTDF to specific programmes at the partner institutions in any of the four (4) countries. The award includes the provision of flight tickets, payment of health insurance, payment of tuition and bench fees (where applicable) as well as the provision of allowances to meet the costs of accommodation and living expenses. The programmes will also include language classes to aid scholars settle into their new environments
