3. NHEF Scholars Programme 2020 for Undergraduate Nigerian Students

The Nigerian Higher Education Foundation is offering the NHEF scholarship program to undergraduate Nigerian Students in their second to last year at the university.

Course to study: students studying any course at any NHEF partner universities are eligible for the scholarship.

Benefit:

  • The scholars’ programme provides scholars with diverse opportunities, from partner universities.
  • A weeklong orientation program on career development training which facilitates an easy transition into the global workforce.
  • For the duration of the NHEF program, scholars will undergo intensive training given by a select group of international facilitators and then they will take up internship placements at the NHEF partner firms for a period of 6-8 weeks.

Requirements: 200 Level students enrolled in any Nigerian public tertiary institution (colleges, polytechnics, and college of education).  Applicants should have a valid Student ID card or any other means of identification (National ID card, International passport or Driver’s license), admission letter from JAMB and institution of study, admission letter for the HND programs (For Polytechnic students only).

Applicants from  Universities and Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.5 or its equivalent (2:1), Polytechnics applicants must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma program (HND), direct entry-level students must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the OND program.

The American Fulbright Students/Scholars program is a merit-based grant which is awarded to students, scholars, teachers, professionals, artists and scientists.

Country to study: U.S.A

Course to study: courses that are related to economics, development-related areas, democracy, human rights and conflict resolution.

Benefit: the Fulbright scholarship provides students with grants to conduct post-doctoral research at U.S. institutions.

Requirements: Applicants must be citizens of Nigeria or permanent residents who hold a valid passport issued by the Nigerian government. They must be doctoral students endorsed by their country and must be at least 2 years into their Doctoral program. Possess excellent academic records, high level of English proficiency, scoring a minimum test of 100 in the TOEFL test. Applicants must have high motivation and a serious commitment to completing the program as scheduled and to returning to their home country.

Keep in mind that only applicants with strong proposals, outlining their research objectives, methodology, time-frame, and justification for conducting the research in the U.S. will be short-listed for interviews. Preference will be given to applicants who have not studied in the U.S. before.

17. University of Bradford Global Development Scholarships for Masters Students

The University of Bradford, UK is awarding the University of Bradford Global Development scholarship to students from war-stricken countries, to enable them to pursue a masters degree at the University of Bradford.

Benefit: scholarship worth approximately £25,000, to cover full tuition fees and accommodation in The Green, plus £4,200 per annum living costs to be paid in three instalments – October, January and April.

Requirements: students must be from a crisis-stricken country as a result of political oppression, war, natural disasters, etc. (Yes, Nigerians inclusive). Self-funded students ready to enrol in a full-time masters program (excluding MBA) at the university. Students need not have enrolled in the school to be able to apply for this scholarship, they just need to have completed their Undergraduate program and know their results to apply.

Applicants should send proof of result while applying, not after. Apply for the scholarship before they apply for the course if they will be reliant on the scholarship to fund your tuition fees and living expenses. Students need to meet the accepted English language requirements listed by the university, however, a C6 grade in WAEC for English or higher can be accepted from some African countries.

18. Postgraduate Scholarships for Ghanaian and Nigerian Students in the UK

The University of Portsmouth is accepting applications from qualified Postgraduate Nigerian and Ghanaian students, to partake of masters scholarship opportunities within the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Department of Geography.

 For Ghanaian students: Scholarship is open to all Ghanaian applicants who hold a minimum of a Second Class Upper in a relevant subject.

Students can apply if they are self-funding, are of Ghanaian or Nigerian nationality, have applied to, been offered and accepted a place on, the postgraduate degree of their choice (conditional or unconditional firm offer) and have satisfied the academic requirements mentioned above and met financial conditions including payment of a non-refundable deposit.

Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience, National Youth Service (NYSC) certificate,  must be computer literate, possession of O/level with Credit in English Language; At least C6 in WAEC/SSCE or C4 and above in NECO,  must not be above 30 years of age.

For PhD:

Minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience, National Youth Service (NYSC) certificate, applicants must be computer literate, possession of O/level with Credit in English Language; (At least C6 in WAEC/SSCE or C4 and above in NECO).

Employment in the academics in reputable Nigerian Institution, teaching oil and gas related disciplines, a minimum of 2.2 in their first degree and a minimum of merit as a second-degree certificate in an oil and gas-related discipline.

Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology relevance to the industry and mode of data collection, possess a valid admission letter and must not be over 40 years of age

20. Gani Fawehinmi Undergraduate Scholarship Awards for Nigerian Students

The Gani Fawehinmi Undergraduate Scholarship is offered to Nigerian students who are enrolled in a Nigerian tertiary institution.
