About Federal Scholarship Board

The Federal Scholarship Board is a department established by the Federal Ministry of Education. It performs various functions. For example, the board devises plans for efficient utilization of foreign and local scholarships for educational aspirants like you. It also collects, collates and analyses students' data and information, scholarship and fellowship awards. The Federal Scholarship Board ensures that deserving Nigerian Scholars are awarded with foreign and local scholarships. It is also saddled with the responsibility of fulfilling commitments to Multilateral Education Agreement and Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA),which will further be discussed. Finally, the Federal Board Scholarship is in charge of the supervision and monitoring of Scholars of the Federal Tertiary Institutions locally and abroad and advises on states scholarship policies and programs.

The Board carries out its jurisdiction through 4 divisions

 

  1. Bilateral Education Agreement
  2. Nigerian Awards
  3. Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan
  4. General Duties

 

 

Board Members of the Federal Scholarship Board

The Federal  Scholarship Board is headed by a Director and Permanent Secretary of the Board. His name is Arc. Sunday S.T.  Echono. Please note that as a department of the Federal Ministry of Education, the board has no Governing Body.

 

FSB Bilateral Education Agreement

Remember we said we would discuss this later? Well, what is the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA)? Bilateral Education Agreement is the division concerned with disbursing scholarship awards between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Government of other non - English speaking Countries who have signed this BEA. Requirments for Federal Scholarship Board BEA Scholarship

For instance, you want to study medicine in Russia! What are the requirements to file an application? You have to initially ensure that you are eligible. So let's get started.

If you are seeking for a postgraduate (Masters or Ph.D) scholarship, here is what you should have:

 

  1. You must have a Master's Degree or a First Degree with First Class or Second Class Upper (2:1).
  2. You must have been employed for at least 2 years. Where necessary, a proof of willingness of the employer to discharge the applicant is desirable.
  3. You must complete your youth corp service (NYSC) or you must have obtained your exemption letter.
  4. You must not be more that 35 years old for Masters or above 40 for Ph.D
  5. Your certificate must not be more than 5 years

 

If you are seeking for an undergraduate scholarship, here is what you should have:

 

  1. You must have a minimum of 5 As and Bs in your WAEC May/June as well as your English and Mathematics in just one seating with subjects relevant to your chosen field of study.
  2. For African countries, your certificate must not be more than one year and for European countries, your certificate must not be more than two years.
  3. Candidates should be between 18 to 20 years old.

How to Apply for Federal Scholarship Board BEA Scholarship

FSB BEA scholarship application forms are to be completed online as follows:

i. Letter of Admission to the Institution

ii. Current Course Registration Form

iii. CGPA results of year 1, 2, 3, etc.

iv. Current School’s Identity Card

v. Letter of Identification from your State/Local Government

vi. Two (2) passport size photographs with your name written at the back and duly

signed by you.

 

Candidates nominated by the federal ministry of education scholarship board will be required to submit to the Board the following:

i) Authenticated copies of academic certificates;

ii) Data page of the current International passport;

iii) Specified Medical Reports from Government hospitals;

iv) National Identification Number (NIN)

v) Police Clearance Certificate where necessary.

 

How to check For BEA Scholarship Results

For now, results have not be pasted. But if the results are out, an SMS will be sent to you and other successful candidates on their registered phone numbers or they could be released on http://www.education.gov.ng where candidates that sat for the scholarship exam can login and check results.
